Whether you want to shave off a few seconds from your best time or simply enjoy a brisk walk on a beautiful day, the 4th Annual Corners to Crossing Races starting gate is beckoning.
The 10K race course has been fine-tuned this year to make it faster and more runner-friendly. The new 10K starting line will be at the Forum at Peachtree Corners and merge with the traditional fast routes used in prior years. The 5K and 1 mile runs will again kick off at the start line at the Norcross First Baptist Church. All races will finish at Thrasher Park in Historic Norcross where the younger “future race stars” can participate in the shorter Tot Trot distances designed for different age groups.
In keeping with past expectations, the 10K and 5K are both Peachtree qualifying races. New this year will be the use of computerized chip timing devices to more accurately reflect results. Based on projections, this year’s participation will exceed 1,000 runners/walkers for the first time.
On Friday, April 15, from 6 pm to 8 pm, a pre-race pasta dinner will be held at the Fowler YMCA for all runners and supporters. Everyone is invited.
After the morning races, the race awards will be presented. Corners to Crossing welcomes back Gayle Baron, five-time Peachtree Road Race Champion, who will again be our Master of Ceremonies for the event. Gayle will be happy to share some excellent running and training tips throughout the morning.
The fun won’t stop after the last person crosses the finish line! The City of Norcross will host a Musicfest with the popular “beach party” theme throughout the afternoon with different band performances. The Forum and its retailers will also host family activities throughout the day, including live music, children activities, promotions and a host of surprises.
The day will close with the traditional benefits concert at Lillian Webb Park in Norcross. This year’s headliner is the Catalina’s, one of the most popular beach music bands ever. Bring your lawn chair and top off the fun-filled day at the free concert starting at 7 pm.
Including race activities in your Saturday plans will make for a wonderful family day. You don’t want to miss any of the festivities!
