Once again, the City of Norcross will be participating in the annual “Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade,” a program begun by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) in cooperation with Governor Ernest Vandiver back in 1958. This annual event organizes cities across Georgia for a collection of items distributed to patients at Georgia’s seven regional mental health hospitals; without the Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade, many patients would go without any type of gift or recognition during the holidays. According to hospital staff, many of the patients at these hospitals have lived there most of their lives and have little - if any - support or contact with friends and family.
All donations are greatly appreciated and should be delivered to Norcross City Hall’s downstairs lobby at 65 Lawrenceville Street on or before December 5th. Donated items should be new, in good condition and not be wrapped. All items collected between now and December 5th will be delivered to the Georgia Regional Hospital in Atlanta on December 7, 2011 (Norcross residents can also call for pick-up of donations.) Civic organizations, businesses, churches, schools, scout troops and individual citizens are encouraged to help with the collection of gifts for the Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade. Join in the holiday spirit by giving personal care items such as toothbrushes, combs and brushes, new clothing, PG or G-rated videos, board games, and other similar items. Generous donations will make holiday dreams come true.
