Veterans Day Celebration Local Church
In honor of Veterans Day, Christ Church Norcross is sponsoring a talk by author and Parishioner Tom Ross, telling of his service during the Vietnam War, and discussing his book, Privileges of War: A Good Story of American Service in Vietnam. After Thomas A. Ross enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966, he received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant, and then was accepted by the U.S. Army Special Forces, the elite unit also known as the “Green Berets.”
After more than a year of unconventional warfare training, Tom was sent to South Vietnam, where he arrived during the infamous Tet Offensive. Tom was immediately assigned a combat role as the Operations and Intelligence Officer of the largest Special Forces “A” Team ever formed. These positions provided him with a unique vantage point from which he was able to observe both men and women as they coped with their wartime assignments.
Tom’s book outlines his exploits as a military advisor, and documents many of the selfless and courageous deeds he witnessed by those who served our country, and will be the focus of Tom’s discussion. Copies of his book will be available for purchase at the dinner.
Tom and his wife, Amy, have lived in the Norcross-Peachtree Corners area for 30 years.
The talk will be on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall at Christ Church Norcross at 400 Holcomb Bridge Road. The meal will be a spaghetti/pasta dinner, prepared and served with assistance from our Youth Group. The cost for dinner is $10, or $20 per family, but veterans will dine for free. Funds will be used for our Parish Life Ministry. Call the number below for more information.
This evening at Christ Church will be for young and old, men and women … as well as veterans and non-veterans. All are invited to attend.
